Captain America: Brave New World Aiming For $100 Million President’s Day Weekend Box Office Debut

Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford’s Captain America: Brave New World is charging toward a big four-day President’s Day weekend opening at the domestic box office.

Per Deadline, Disney is projecting the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe offering will earn $100 million domestically from 4,105 North American theaters through President’s Day on Monday. The trade publication said that with film’s projected international take of $92.4 million, Captain America: Brave New World is looking at four-day worldwide tally of $192.4 million.

Captain America: Brave New World marks Mackie’s first turn as Captain America after Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers handled the mantle of the First Avenger to Mackie’s Sam Wilson in the 2019 MCU blockbuster Avengers: Endgame. Ford stars as President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in Captain America: Brave New World, who at one point transforms into the Red Hulk.

Ford assumes the role of Ross following the death of the character’s previous actor, William Hurt, died in 2022 at age 71.

Directed by Julius Onah, Captain America: Brave New World also stars Danny Ramirez, Giancarlo Esposito, Carl Lumbly, Shira Haas and Tim Blake Nelson.

‘Paddington In Peru’ Opens In Distant Second

Sony Pictures Entertainment projects that its family movie Paddington in Peru will earn $16 million through the four-day President’s Day weekend from 3,890 North American theaters.

Paddington in Peru, which had already been released internationally, added $20.3 to its overseas cume to bring its international total to $128.8 million through Sunday.

After two wyeeks of being the top dog at the domestic box office, Universal’s animated family comed Dog Man has been knocked down to third place. Per Deadline, Dog Man—which is playing in 3,354 theaters domestically—is projected to earn $12.5 million through Monday to boost its North American tally to $69.5 million.

Sony Pictures Entertainment projects that its Valentine’s Day-themed horror thriller Heart Eyes will earn $11.1 million from 3,102 North American theaters for a four-day holiday weekend cume of $22.6 million.

Deadline also projects that the Chinese animated adventure fantasy Ne Zha 2 will round out the domestic box office top five with a four-day take of $8.3 million through the four-day holiday weekend. Ne Zha 2 is playing in 660 theaters domestically.

Note: This box office report will be updated through Monday with the most current domestic and international box office numbers as they become available. The final numbers for the President’s Day weekend box office will be released on Tuesday.
