PUERTO VALLARTA, MEXICO - APRIL 30: Tony Finau of the United States walks onto the 15th green ... [+]
Editor note: Original version modified.
The PGA Tour moves South of the Border this week to Vidanta Vallarta for the 4th edition of the Mexico Open. It’s a special place and event beyond the magnificent golf course. VidantaWorld provides guests and fans a gateway to unparalleled luxury and thrilling entertainment.
The Mexico Open does not draw the top players with a smaller $7 million purse on Tour. But with $1.45 million to the winner and 500 FedExCup points, the competition will be fierce for many second-tier pros that rank among the top 100 in the world.
Golf Course
The Vidanta Vallarta signature course at Vidanta Nuevo Nayarit-Vallarta winds along the Ameca River, providing views of the Sierra Madre mountains from every hole uninterrupted by housing and civilization throughout. The 7,436 yard par 71 was designed by Greg Norman in 2015. Golf Inc. magazine named this the public course renovation of the year in 2022 with Norman’s touch-up.
The course was significantly damaged by Hurricane Patricia in 2016. There are just 55 sand bunkers but water is in play on 13 holes as golfers play across Platinum paspalum expansive fairways, rough (2.5") and greens with little undulation. Course history has shown that longer hitters have a distinct advantage. But watch the weather for high winds off the Pacific coastline.
Previous champions include:
- 2022: Jon Rahm at -17
- 2023: Tony Finau at -24
- 2024: Jake Knapp at -19
When Jon Rahm won the inaugural event at VidantaWorld, his odds to win of +260 at FanDuel were the shortest odds for a PGA Tour event since sports betting was legalized in the U.S. in 2018. Tony Finau won a year later as the favoite at +800, or 8/1.

In fact, the top two sites in the country for wagering on sporting events legally are BetOnline and affiliate SportsBetting.ag.
